In 2017, I traveled to Ukraine 🇺🇦 to photograph @helpushelp.charity summer camp.

I spent a week in the Carpathian Mountains documenting the experiences of more than 300 Ukrainian orphan children.
🏕
At the end of the week we climbed Mount Hoverla, Eastern Europe's tallest mountain with 150 of the kids. My shooting partner for the day, cinematographer @yuramelko is pictured with me near the top.
It took 3 hours to summit the mountain, it was foggy almost the entire time and you could barely see your hand in front of you. But when we reached the summit the clouds cleared and the views were totally worth it.

I did something I have been working towards for a about 5 years. No, it’s not a degree from the University of Alberta (I wish).

I have been preparing a donation to the Canadian Ukrainian archive. Containing my families old documents and photographs from their immigration and pioneer days.

Yes, that’s correct. The good ole pioneer days. My grandparents and great grandparents were some of the first settlers in Alberta, Canada. Pioneering the prairies like so many amazing Ukrainians from the first and 2nd diasporas.

So, for the past year I have been re-photographing and digitally archiving, in a proper studio setting every single piece of my families history.

In August of this year, my mom and I road tripped to Edmonton, Alberta Canada to meet with the curator of the Kule Folklore Archive, the largest archive of Ukrainian Canadian culture in the country. Housed at the University of Alberta campus.

Now, the Hanchar-Radomski archives will live on forever, and be available for research and scholarly purposes.

It is not lost on me how important it is to preserve Ukrainian culture in Canada. Ukraine has always been under fire culturally, and while my family and I have donated to the current Ukrainian cause in other ways this year and in recent years, I feel this is our most important donation yet.
